ACADEMY SOCCER
Youth players looking for a higher level of training.
The SFC Academy Program focuses on developing the soccer skills of U7-U10 players who have demonstrated a strong interest and enjoyment of soccer. Many recreational players switch to Academy because they are looking for a more challenging soccer environment. For others, the pure joy of the game is what brings them to the program. The purpose of the Academy Program is to prepare players to be successful select soccer players and individuals. We do this through a focus on fundamental technical soccer skills and character education (sportsmanship, team building, positive social interaction).
Academy teams operate at a higher level of competition and with a higher level of training activity, which requires a higher commitment. Training focuses almost solely on individual player skills. Tactics for game play are not emphasized, and are not taught until the proper techniques and skills are in place to execute them. Training sessions are typically 2 weeknights (M&W or T&Th) with games played in the WYSA Club v Club Academy League on weekends in Waukesha County and Greater Milwaukee.
We expect our "graduating" academy players to successfully pass select tryouts and be offered a position on a U11 Select team if they wish to enter the select program.

Philosophy
The academy aged (6-10 years old) player is eager, active, and likes to be on the go. Although keen to act independently, they also need adult approval, understanding, praise, and encouragement. Pushing too hard or expecting too much can result in the child becoming tense and nervous. As players advance in age, they are able to accept moderate responsibilities.
Peer groups also become more important and the child will identify with other youngsters with similar interests.
Our Development Focus:
• Individual movement skills and technical soccer development are at the top of our agenda
• Small sided games and teamwork activities are introduced.
• An optimal time for training suppleness and speed occurs for both girls and boys at 6-10 years.
As players "graduate" and look to branch out into select at U11, our developmental focus shifts:
• There is now a crucial window for players to develop advanced competency in basic techniques.
• Basic tactical appreciation is introduced.
• Aerobic capacity training is introduced prior to the adolescent growth spurt, known as Peak Height Velocity.
